That night, after Colleen left and the house finally went quiet, I sat at the kitchen table with my laptop and reopened the photos Valerie had sent.

Seventy images.

Seventy moments they thought were romantic.

To me, they were evidence.

I zoomed in again on the photo that had been bothering me. Glenn and Valerie were sitting at a restaurant table, smiling at the camera. Behind them, barely visible through the glass window, was a banner.

A university crest.

Not just any crest. I knew it immediately.

It belonged to the Riverton Community Scholarship Foundation—the charity Glenn loved to talk about whenever local reporters came to interview him about the shop.

“Giving back to the community,” he always said.

I enlarged the image again.

And that’s when I noticed something worse.
